Grote Knip (Kenepa Grandi)
Grote Knip — Kenepa Grandi — is the beach on every Curaçao postcard: a wide white crescent against impossibly blue water, framed by low cliffs on the far western end of the island.
It sits roughly an hour from Willemstad near the village of Lagun. The beach is free, with some shade trees, a snack truck and basic facilities at the top of the steps. Swimming is excellent and the water stays shallow a long way out, which makes it good for families; confident swimmers cliff-jump from the rocks on the right. There is light snorkelling at the edges, but Grote Knip is really about the colour of the water and the view.
Good to know
- Combine it with neighbouring Kleine Knip for a half-day on the west end.
- Shade is limited — bring an umbrella in high season.
- Sunset here is spectacular; stay late and drive back with care.
