Currency & Money in Curaçao

Curaçao's currency is the Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG), pegged at a fixed rate of about 1.79 to the US dollar, and US dollars are accepted almost everywhere.

Because of the peg, you can think in dollars with ease. Cards are widely accepted in Willemstad; carry some cash for markets, Plasa Bieu, taxis and small snèks, which are often cash-only. ATMs dispense both guilders and sometimes dollars. You will usually get change in guilders, so spend them before you fly home.

Good to know

  • US dollars are accepted everywhere; cards work in most shops.
  • Carry cash for markets, taxis and the Old Market.
  • Spend leftover guilders before departure, they are hard to exchange abroad.

Questions & answers
