Currency & Money in Curaçao
Curaçao's currency is the Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG), pegged at a fixed rate of about 1.79 to the US dollar — and US dollars are accepted almost everywhere.
Because of the peg, you can think in dollars with ease. Cards are widely accepted in Willemstad; carry some cash for markets, Plasa Bieu, taxis and small snèks, which are often cash-only. ATMs dispense both guilders and sometimes dollars. You will usually get change in guilders, so spend them before you fly home.
Good to know
- US dollars are accepted everywhere; cards work in most shops.
- Carry cash for markets, taxis and the Old Market.
- Spend leftover guilders before departure — they are hard to exchange abroad.
