Curaçao can be affordable: many beaches are free, the best local food is cheap, the historic city is free to explore on foot, and a little planning stretches every dollar.
Eat at Plasa Bieu and snèks, swim at free beaches like Grote Knip, Kleine Knip, Daaibooi and Playa Lagun, and walk Willemstad rather than tour it. Rent a car only for the days you need it and share with others. Fill a refillable bottle with the excellent tap water, and visit in the shoulder season for lower rates. The painted city costs nothing to enjoy.
